Construction works
The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015) set out how construction projects should be managed. The Health and Safety Executive provides further guidance on these regulations.
Your duties when doing construction work
When carrying out construction work on a property, you will likely need to
- appoint people who have the right skills, knowledge and experience
- participate and cooperate fully with all other responsible parties
- share relevant information with everyone who needs it
- allocate sufficient time and resources to the project
- provide adequate welfare facilities.
Depending on the project and your involvement you might have extra legal duties. You must confirm the extent of your responsibility before you start any work.
CDM 2015 applies to all construction projects in the UK, no matter how big or small they are. You must report some types of work to the Health and Safety Executive before you start.
Please note that, aside from statutory permissions eg planning approval, you also need our consent as landlord of the property before you start any construction work. This includes before you carrying out alterations to your property layout such as adding or removing walls, or installing a mezzanine level.
