Legionnaires disease is a type of pneumonia caused by inhaling airborne aerosols containing Legionella bacteria. The risk of legionnaires disease increases when Legionella is allowed to develop in stagnant water, for example, in cooling towers, and hot and cold water systems
In line with Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 you responsible for ensuring that the water supply to your property is maintained in a safe condition. It is recommended that you familiarise yourself with Health and Safety Executive Guidance ‘What you must do’ and that you refer to Part 2 of the Approved Code of Practice and guidance on Legionella for more detailed information. Where available, the Council will provide you with a Water Register at the start of your tenancy.
