Gas safety
Under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 you are responsible for ensuring that any gas appliance, installation, pipe, or flue is maintained in a safe condition. Detailed information on your legal responsibilities can be found within the Health and Safety Executive’s Approved Code of Practice and guidance.
A Gas Safe registered engineer should service equipment every year.
Further independent advice on gas safety can be obtained by contacting Gas Safe. They maintain a register of consultants and companies that are competent to carry out gas-related work.
If you suspect a gas leak, turn off the supply. For a natural gas mains supply, immediately call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. For liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), call your LPG supplier.
Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Where the burning of any fuel takes place within your premises it is recommended you install and maintain a carbon monoxide detector.
