Youth and Safeguarding Lead - Hibernian Community Foundation - 18581
Contract: Permanent, full-time, Salary: £28,000 - £32,000, Closing Date: 11:59pm, Sunday May 24th.
The Hibernian Community Foundation are seeking a Youth and Safeguarding Lead to ensure safeguarding measures and documentation are in place, supporting the team in making sure our Foundation remains inclusive, responsive and safe.
The successful candidate will codesign and deliver youth-focused community programmes that reflect the needs, aspirations and lived experiences of young people across our communities; all while building trusted relationships with families, schools and community partners. You will work closely with the Head of Community and Managing Director to shape programme strategy, embed safeguarding, risk assessment and wellbing into every aspect of delivery; supporting staff in developing a robust volunteering framework.

Job Overview:
This role combines safeguarding leadership, oversight of PVG processes, risk assessment, project development, direct outreach and volunteer development.
The Youth and Safeguarding Lead will be the Foundation’s Lead Safeguarding Officer. You will ensure safeguarding measures and documentation are in place and will support the team in making sure our Foundation remains inclusive, responsive, and safe. You will co-design and deliver youth-focused community programmes that reflect the needs, aspirations, and lived experiences of young people across our communities. You will build trusted relationships with families, schools, and community partners.
You will work closely with the Head of Community and the Managing Director to shape programme strategy, embed safeguarding, risk assessment and wellbeing into every aspect of delivery, and support staff in developing a robust volunteering framework. This includes helping to create meaningful volunteer roles, youth leadership pathways, and safe, well supported environments for everyone involved.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Safeguarding Leadership
- Serve as the Foundation’s Lead Safeguarding Officer
- Respond promptly and effectively to safeguarding concerns raised by staff, volunteers, or participants
- Ensure all programmes have appropriate safeguarding measures, risk assessments, and escalation protocols
- Take the lead role for PVG on behalf of Hibernian Community Foundation
- Maintain accurate safeguarding documentation, including PVG records and training registers
- Take the lead role working with the Senior Management Team for assessing risk, updating the Risk Register and Health & Safety
- Provide guidance and support to staff managing safeguarding issues
- Liaise with external agencies and review policies to align with legislation and best practice
Community Youth Project Development
- Co-design and deliver inclusive youth projects that support social inclusion, transitions, and wellbeing
- Engage directly with young people to understand their needs and create meaningful opportunities
- Monitor and evaluate impact using outcome frameworks and youth feedback
Volunteer Development
- Support the Head of Community in developing a strategic volunteering framework
- Assist staff in recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers across programmes
- Embed safeguarding, wellbeing, and meaningful roles into volunteer pathways
- Develop volunteering and leadership opportunities
Outreach & Engagement
- Build trusted relationships in the community - families, schools, and community partners
- Represent the Foundation at local events, forums, and networks including SFA
- Champion inclusion and accessibility in all outreach activities
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Strong understanding of Child Wellbeing and Protection, Adult Support and Protection and safeguarding legislation
- Experience of managing safeguarding concerns and embedding safe practice
- Experience of designing and delivering youth or community programmes
- Ability to build trusted relationships with young people and community partners
- Experience supporting volunteers and contributing to strategic volunteer development
- Excellent communication, planning, and evaluation skills
Desirable
- Experience working in the charity or public sector
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice
- Risk management and Health & Safety experience and knowledge
- PVG membership and safeguarding training credentials preferably in sport
- Familiarity with outcome frameworks and local authority priorities and policy drivers
Dimensions and Scope of Job
People Management
- With no full-time direct reports, you will provide a critical support role to staff and volunteers reporting safeguarding concerns. Internal Relationships
- You will work closely with the Managing Director, Head of Community, Head of Football and all internal Foundation colleagues to discuss safeguarding priorities and adapting processes.
External Relationships
- You will be the key contact for external suppliers and regulators, including Disclosure Scotland and SFA.
Financial Management
- You will be required to adhere to The Foundation’s Financial Policy, spending designated budget funds when approved.
