Cycling and walking projects

We are investing in improving conditions for cycling and walking around the city. This is in line with our strategy to encourage more people to travel by bike or on foot for everyday journeys.

The Active Travel Action plan has more information on the wider strategy. Below you will find additional information on our biggest projects.

The City Centre West to East Link is our highest priority active travel project and will connect many cycle and walking routes in the city’s western and northern suburbs to and through the city centre. The West Edinburgh Link and Meadows to George Street Link will transform cycling and walking access to and within one of Scotland's key business parks and across the city centre respectively. Leith Connections will complement the cycle and pedestrian improvements planned on Leith Walk as part of the Trams to Newhaven project, continuing a safe cycle route all the way to Ocean Terminal.
