Overview of the project
Our vision is to transform connections for cycling, walking, and accessibility for all within and around one of Scotland’s key business parks, in the west of Edinburgh.
The project will connect up South Gyle, Edinburgh Park and local neighbourhoods with high quality walking and cycling routes and new public spaces through
- Glasgow Road
- South Gyle
- Bankhead
- Sighthill
- Wester Hailes
- Clovenstone
Our objectives
- High quality infrastructure to support everyday walking and cycling journeys for all abilities
- Create an inclusive environment with access for all
- Support multi-modal sustainable transport
- Reinforce and support the continued thriving business function of the area
Our proposals include
- around 5km of new segregated and improved cycleways
- new crossings
- path and pavement improvements
Why this new route is important
The route connects local communities to
- major employment areas
- retail centres
- local schools, college and university
It also brings benefits to the whole of the west of Edinburgh by linking to key walking, wheeling and cycling routes which link to the city centre, such as
- QuietRoute 8
- the Union Canal
- the Water of Leith Path
