Stores Assistant/Delivery Driver - Building Finishing Services UK Ltd - 18550
Contract: Permanent, Salary: £27,976 per annum, Closing Date: Sunday 26 April
Employer:
Building Finishing Services UK Ltd (BFS) is a multi-disciplinary property maintenance and building services provider working extensively across Edinburgh and the surrounding areas, delivering repairs, maintenance, voids, and specialist finishing works for clients including the City of Edinburgh Council. The company focuses on quality, compliance, and efficient service delivery, supported by structured internal processes, trained operatives, and a modern fleet. BFS places strong emphasis on health and safety, environmental responsibility, and supply-chain quality, while also contributing to community benefit initiatives. Through continuous improvement, clear communication, and a skilled workforce, BFS aims to provide reliable, customer-focused services across all its operations.
Environment:
You will be responsible for managing, organising, and maintaining the company’s stores, ensuring materials, tools, and equipment are accurately logged, well-stocked, and ready for operational use. The role includes preparing and issuing materials for jobs, receiving, and checking deliveries, and keeping the stores clean, safe, and compliant. In addition, you will carry out scheduled deliveries and collections to sites using company vehicles, ensuring all items are transported safely and efficiently. Based at Bankhead Avenue, you will work 40 hours per week, 8 hour shifts between 7am and 6pm.
What might a day in this role look like?
This role supports the smooth running of daily operations by providing reliable stock control, timely deliveries, and strong communication with operatives, planners, and management. A typical day involves organising and maintaining the stores, preparing materials for operatives, and receiving and checking deliveries. You will then load the van and carry out scheduled drop-offs and collections to sites across the city, ensuring operatives have the correct materials. After returning to the depot, you will update stock records, carry out basic stock control, manage returns, or waste, and ensure both the stores and vehicle are kept clean, safe, and ready for the next day.
What will I learn?
You will gain hands-on experience in stock control, materials management, and organising a busy stores environment. You’ll learn how to read delivery notes, manage inventory systems, and understand the materials, tools, and equipment used in property maintenance. You’ll also develop skills in planning efficient delivery routes, safe loading and unloading, and maintaining company vehicles. Alongside this, you’ll build strong communication skills by working closely with operatives, planners, suppliers, and management, while gaining a solid understanding of health and safety, compliance, and the wider operational flow of a maintenance and construction business.
