How to become a Community Councillor?

You can become a Community Councillor by being;

  • elected to the Community Council.  Next Community Council elections will be held in February 2025.
  • Co-opted to a Community Council in line with the Scheme for Community Councils.

Candidates wishing to stand for election or co-option must be 16 years and over and reside in the Community Council boundary and be named on the electoral register for that area.

  • Nominated member of a local interest group that has been registered with the City of Edinburgh Council.
  • Associate representative appointed by a community council where a need for individuals with particular skills or knowledge has been identified and agreed.
  • Ex-Officio representative which includes Local Authority Councillors, MPs, MSPs, and SYPs whose wards fall wholly or partly within the geographical area of the community council area.
