Youth Participation Worker - Space @ The Broomhouse Hub - 18537
Contract: Fixed Term until 31 July 2027 / Part time, Salary: £27,310 per annum pro-rata, Closing date: 9am on Wednesday 22 April.

Space @ The Broomhouse Hub is a community anchor organisation supporting people and their families in South West Edinburgh, with some of our services stretching city wide. Space delivers 22 projects, with 60+ staff and 100 volunteers. We deliver diverse services supporting young people, families, older people and carers amongst others.
Environment:
The Youth Participation Worker will join a small team (two workers, one manager) in designing, planning, and delivering our WOW! Project, supporting young people aged 16-24 years to transition between education and employment.
The project offers group sessions and works with partners like Edinburgh Zoo and Edinburgh International Festival to help young people build on their skills and improve their confidence.
WOW! has been successfully running for almost two years, having delivered six cohorts during that time. Each cohort runs for 10 weeks, with up to 10 young participants. Sessions take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at The Broomhouse Hub, with some sessions delivered by partner organisations in outreach locations throughout Edinburgh.
Working hours are 18 hours per week which must include Tuesdays and Thursdays.
What might a day in this role look like?
- Co-design, plan, deliver WOW! group sessions to meet project objectives, carrying out meaningful consultation with group participants to ensure content is engaging and appropriate for their needs, whilst balancing funder requirements
- Meet with young people to assess their suitability for project and to deliver appropriate support
- Create promotional material and network locally, recruiting suitable young people to programme
- Work with project partners to coordinate session planning and practical aspects of delivery
- Track and evaluate progress of project to demonstrate impact and inform funder reporting
- Maintain project administration, ensuring accurate, detailed records are kept for project activity, and attendance and skills development of each young person
- Stay abreast of local opportunities for young people, such as community groups, jobs, work placements, further education, and volunteering opportunities
- Source and commission external trainers/suppliers to deliver sessions where specialised knowledge and/or skills are required
- Recruit and support volunteers into project
- Ensure safety of participants and volunteers through assessing risks and applying safeguarding practices
- Work as part of wider Community Learning and Development team to share knowledge and best practice.
What qualifications/skills are required?
- Experience designing, delivering, evaluating outcome-focused, people-led community projects
- Experience supporting vulnerable young people living with multiple barriers to employment
- Motivated, highly organised, able to prioritise own workload with minimal supervision
- Ability to work collaboratively with teammates and partner organisations to problem solve and deliver project aims
- Excellent interpersonal skills to naturally form and manage appropriate relationships with range of people of all ages, walks of life
- Understanding of health and safety practices, including safeguarding and assessing risks
