Complete this form if you have a child or children attending a nursery within the City of Edinburgh Council area and you match the conditions to claim Free School Meals.

Before you start

Find out if you match the conditions to claim free school meals on the Scottish Government website. If you receive one of the eligible benefits you can apply for the Spring Hardship Payment.

We will ask you to upload documents to confirm which of these benefits you receive when you complete this application. You may want to scan these documents before you start the form. PDF files are best for scanned documents.

If you can’t upload the documents with your application you can send them to us later.

We, the City of Edinburgh Council, use the information you provide to process your claim for Early Years Spring Hardship Payment.

Where allowed by law, we may pass your information to organisations such as

  • SEEMIS
  • Department for Work and Pensions
  • HM Revenue and Customs

We may check information you have provided, or information about you that someone else has provided, with information we hold.

These third parties include

  • local authorities
  • private-sector companies, such as banks and organisations that lend you money.

We will not give information about you to anyone else, or use information about you for other purposes, unless the law requires us to. 

We may use your information to identify whether you are eligible for other benefits, such as Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction.
