Coronavirus - important information about free school meals
Families of children from P4 to S6 who receive Free School Meals, and those in P1 to P3 who are entitled to clothing grants, will receive a fortnightly electronic payment during term time and the Easter Holidays equivalent to the cost of a school meal.
Families of children in P1 to P3 who have an income-based entitlement to Free School Meals and a clothing grant will be contacted directly.
Please do not contact us until you receive your letter. Please only contact us if
- we've asked for your bank details
- you have changed your bank details
- you have not received the correct payment for all children
Please give your full name, address and names of all children. We are receiving a high number of enquiries without these important details.
About school grants
Low income families can get free school meals, milk and a school clothing grant to help towards buying school clothes for their children.
All children in primary 1 to 3 receive free school meals, but not free milk or a clothing grant.
Find out if you match the conditions to claim free school meals on the Scottish Government website.
If you match these conditions you will also qualify for free milk and a clothing grant.
Each award is valid for one school year. The award provides
- each child with one school meal and milk each day they attend school
- a clothing grant payment of £100 for each child.
We pay one clothing grant per year, per child, into your bank account. Most clothing grants are paid throughout July and August before the new school year begins.
Automatic awards for the 2019-20 school year have been made. We sent letters to everyone who qualified for an automatic award in June 2019.
If you did not receive a letter from us in June, you need to complete the application form.
Automatic awards can be made under certain conditions if you get housing benefit and/or council tax reduction. We use information we already hold about your benefits to give an automatic award.
If you get an automatic award you do not need to fill in a new application form. We will ask you to confirm your bank account details before we pay your clothing grant.
