Construction phases
Phase 1
This work is now complete. It included:
- Torwood path – widening, surfacing and lighting
- South Gyle Access (between Bankhead Drive and Flassches yard) - new segregated cycleway. Shared use crossing at the entrance to Forrester High School
- Bankhead Drive / South Gyle Access Junction – new and improved pedestrian and cycle crossings
- Bankhead Avenue (between Bankhead Drive and Edinburgh College/Napier University entrance) – new segregated cycleway, side road crossing and zebra crossing
Phase 2
Work will start late September 2026 and will run to summer 2027.
This will include:
- Bankhead Avenue – new segregated cycleway.
- Calder Road – new segregated cycleway and pedestrian crossing
From Monday 21 September, we will close access to Bankhead Medway from Bankhead Avenue. Local traffic will be diverted via Bankhead Crossway North and Bankhead Broadway. Businesses will still have full access.
This access will be closed for up to three months. Following this there will be further closures to local roads as the work progresses and we will update these pages as we go.
