More detail about the project
We will deliver the project in phases with phase one starting in autumn/winter 2025.
Phase 1 focuses on building connections from the existing cycle route (QuietRoute 8) to
- Edinburgh College
- Edinburgh Napier University
- Forrester High School and St Augustine's RC High School
- South Gyle Business Park (at Flassaches Yard)
We will also upgrade the Torwood Path.
Improvements include
- new crossings
- path widening and surfacing
- segregated cycleways.

Future phases will connect with existing cycling routes at the A70 and Water of Leith path, extending the route south through
- Bankhead Avenue
- Wester Hailes Road
- Clovenstone
This will provide a significant improvement for local people, connecting them to key destinations for work, education and amenities and shops.
The route will include
- more segregated and off-road cycleways
- new crossings
- path improvements.
We will also take the route north through South Gyle Cresent to the Gyle Centre and improve the A8 crossing, giving a better connection to and from South Gyle Park for local people.
