Project overview
St Andrew Square is a vital part of our plans to transform the city centre:
- making it better for walking, wheeling and cycling
- improving the quality of public space
- making vital connections within the city centre and to other parts of the city, such as the City Centre West to East Cycle Link (CCWEL) and Princes Street through to Waverley Station.
It will also improve the area for
- public transport
- acess to taxis
- servicing and access for local businesses
The proposals include
- improvements to pavements
- new protected cycle routes
- better crossings, public spaces and access
Improvements must be designed to respect the unique character, layout and historic setting of the square, which is located in Edinburgh’s New Town and World Heritage Site.
This project is a key part of our City Centre Transformation Plan and Our Future Streets: a circulation plan for Edinburgh, transforming how people move around the city centre, along our main travel corridors and through our neighbourhoods.
Project area
The project focuses on the streets and spaces around St Andrew Square, including St David Street, the north and south sides of the square and the main junctions linking to nearby city centre streets.
