You should always ensure you have the relevant licences or permits before beginning your business venture. Licence applications can take some time - up to a year in some cases.

To apply, find the correct licence from our list and return the completed application pack.

Each type of licence provides information on

  • who should apply
  • timescales involved

Renewing a licence

Remember you cannot apply to renew a licence after it has expired.

If your licence is due for renewal over a weekend or a public holiday, you must submit an application form with the application fee by the close of business on the Friday before the weekend or the last business day before the public holiday. This also applies if you send a renewal application by post.

If your category of licence can be renewed on GOV.UK, submit your application and have the payment confirmed before midnight on the day your licence is due to expire.

The customer hub is currently closed so you cannot submit an application in person. However you can email a completed application form together with any required documents, as set out in the application pack, to [email protected]   The application fee must be paid when you email your application form and this can be made by BACs payment:

Make a bank payment (BACs payment)

For licence renewal applications your payment reference must be your 6 digit current licence number, this can be found on the bottom of your current licence document or on the top right hand side of your reminder letter, and your surname.

For new licence applications, your payment reference must be your home address

Council's bank sort code is 83 06 08 and account number is 00740589
