Complete this form if you
- have a child or children
- are a young person over the age of 16, receiving benefits in your name
attending a primary or secondary school within the City of Edinburgh Council area, or a school place elsewhere placed by us.
Do not use this form to apply for children in early years settings.
Only one application form is required each school year. Do not submit multiple forms.
If parents share care of a child equally, but one parent receives Child Benefit (or other benefits for the child) that parent should apply for Free School Meals/Clothing Grant as they will be considered the main carer for Free School Meals/Clothing Grant purposes.
If neither parent receives any benefit for the child and the child is not included in a Council Tax Reduction/Housing Benefit claim, both parents must satisfy the eligibility criteria for Free School Meals/Clothing Grant. We are unable to split payment therefore, parents should agree who is to receive the Clothing Grant payment and any holiday payments.
Before you begin
Find out if you match the conditions to claim free school meals on the Scottish Government website. If you receive one of the eligible benefits you can apply.
We will ask you to upload documents to confirm which of these benefits you receive when you complete this application. If you receive Tax Credits we need you to upload/send us all pages of your Tax Credit Award letter. If you receive Universal Credit, we need you to upload/send us a full breakdown of your most recent award. You may want to scan these documents before you start the form.
