Working in Waverley Court

Calton Hub (G2)

We've refurbished G2, opposite the Waverley Court reception, to create a variety of flexible, collaborative spaces to meet with the public and provide learning.

Within the Calton Hub there’s a range of meeting spaces, which are named to reflect the natural shrubbery of the Seven Hills of Edinburgh.

Main meeting area and pods

This is for colleagues and partners within the building to meet members of the public, visiting colleagues, contractors and suppliers. Please use other spaces in Waverley Court for internal meetings.

Facilities available include

  • breakout spaces
  • hybrid screens
  • soundproof pods called Beech, Birch, Alder and Willow which can seat two to six people.
  • more informal, comfortable seating.

Meeting rooms

There are meeting rooms connected to the Calton Hub, called Hazel and Bramble. They seat 10 people. They have a large table with seats and hybrid screens for virtual meetings or presentations.

Learning rooms

There are three large rooms next to the main public area, called Rowan, Juniper and Hawthorn which have been provided to deliver learning. During termtime, these learning spaces will be mainly used by the English Speakers of other Language (ESOL) team to teach. However, colleagues and partners will be able to book these spaces when ESOL aren’t using them.

Room bookings

You can book the rooms and pods on myBookings.

The designs

The overall appearance and feel of the space is based on a biophilic approach, being inspired by nature and the surroundings of Waverley Court, including the use of muted colours throughout the furniture and carpets.

There are graphics on the external windows to create some privacy, that include images of the Seven Hills of Edinburgh. The Calton Hub sign also adds a little bit of nature with the use of preserved moss. All signs also include Gaelic translations.

The space includes hearing loops, wheelchair accessible spaces, clear signage incorporating braille, and lighting to make it brighter to reduce eye strain. There’s flexible furniture to support various working styles, as well as support the different types of events and meetings.

We’ve developed a space that considers sustainability and wellbeing that supports and inspires our users. This includes recycling and reupholstering furniture and adding sensors so that lights only come on when needed.
