Low Emission Zone

Last updated April 2024

Enforcement starts 1 June

We will start issuing fines (penalty notices) from 1 June 2024. If your vehicle does not meet the emission standards, you may be fined if you drive through the zone. Check the zone boundary to see how you can drive around it.

Ahead of this we have made three changes to roads which will allow drivers with vehicles that don't meet the standards to drive around the zone. These will also help to limit congestion.

  • Morrison Street is two-way to all traffic between the junction at Morrison Link and the junction at Dewar Place (from 14 April)
  • traffic can turn right from Home Street to Brougham Street at the Tollcross junction (from 4 April)
  • new right turn filter from the Pleasance to Holyrood Road (from 6 March).

Check if your vehicle meets the standards. Motorbikes and mopeds are amongst the vehicles that are exempt. Blue badge holders, whose vehicles do not meet the standards, and disabled passenger vehicles may apply for an exemption.

We want everyone in Edinburgh to enjoy a greener, cleaner and healthier city. The LEZ will help us achieve that by reducing air pollution, not just within the zone but across the city as well.
