Free school meals in P6 and P7
If you don’t meet the conditions for school grants but you
- get the Scottish Child Payment
- have a child in primary 6 or 7
you can get free school meals. You can’t get school holiday payments, free milk or a school clothing grant.
Social Security Scotland told us which families get the Scottish Child Payment. We used this information to award free school meals to all eligible P6 and P7 children.
We notified eligible parents by email. If you didn’t get an email but you think you might be eligible, please contact us.
Awards will be valid until your child leaves primary school. This means
- P7 children will get free school meals until July 2026
- P6 children will get free school meals until July 2027.
Your award will end earlier if you stop getting the Scottish Child Payment. You must tell us if this happens.
