Exemptions
Some households don’t have to pay for garden waste collections. This applies to people who receive
- Council Tax reduction - previously called Council Tax benefit
- Council Tax discount or exemption because someone who lives in your property is classed as severely mentally impaired
- the Council’s Garden Aid service and are exempt from paying for this service.
There are no other exemptions for this service, including students and households that receive other discounts like disabled persons or single occupancy discount.
If you qualify for an exemption you still need to sign up during the registration period, but you won’t be charged. Once you sign up, we will verify your exemption and let you know if there are any issues.
From 2022 / 2023, your free permit will renew every year unless your exemption status changes.
