Libraries for under fives

Encouraging parents and children to read together

Every library hosts regular Bookbug sessions. These are free, fun-filled times of stories, songs and rhymes for parents and children aged birth to 4 years.

Contact your local library to find out when Bookbug sessions happen.

Bookbug's library challenge

Pick up your free Bookbug library challenge collector card from your local library. Children collect stickers as they borrow books. After collecting six stickers your child gets a colourful certificate designed by a children's book illustrator. The more books they borrow the more certificates they get.

Bookbug packs

From the age of 6 weeks, new born babies and their parents receive their first free pack, Bookbug Baby. A second pack, Bookbug Toddler, is gifted from age 13 months. The final pack, Bookbug Pirate, is gifted through nursery when the child is 3 years old.

Each pack contains 2 books, a poster and a magazine with information on how to join the library.

Baby and Me book group

A book group you can bring your baby to. We have a collection of 'quick reads' as we know your reading time is limited! We also discuss suitable books for your baby. Contact your local library for details.

Teddy bear sleepovers

From time to time teddies get to spend the night at the library. Pictures from our blog show the mischief they get up to. Ask at your nearest library if your teddy would like a sleepover.
