Libraries for under fives

Every library hosts regular Bookbug sessions. These are free, fun-filled times of stories, songs and rhymes for children aged 0 to 4 years and their parents or carers.

Find Bookbug sessions at Edinburgh Libraries

To keep everyone safe during library Bookbug sessions, we are following Scottish Government guidance on parent and baby groups, as well as the Scottish Book Trust guidance on the resumption of Bookbug sessions.

  • Please do not attend the session if you or your child feel unwell
  • Some library Bookbug sessions must be booked in advance. Please check with the library.
  • We will endeavour to have ventilation and hand sanitiser available
  • While at the session please follow good hygiene practices. Avoid touching your nose, eyes, and mouth. Cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue and dispose of it safely.

Bookbug's library challenge

Pick up your free Bookbug library challenge collector card from a library. Children collect stickers as they borrow books. After collecting six stickers your child gets a colourful certificate designed by a children's book illustrator. The more books they borrow, the more certificates they get.
