Introduction
The Equally Safe Edinburgh Committee (ESEC) is a partnership between organisations which work to put into practice the Scottish Government’s and Conventions of Scottish Local Authorities’ (COSLA) Equally Safe Strategy across Edinburgh.
We make sure services are always learning about how best to support and protect women and girls from abuse, violence and inequality. We provide public information on how to uphold the rights of women and girls.
Every year we work together to organise events and activities during the 16 days campaign, between 25 November and 10 December. This year, our local theme is ‘Gender based abuse, violence and exploitation in the lives of children and young people’. We will focus on raising awareness of the issues faced by children and young people, and what we can do as parents, professionals and members of the community to keep children and young people safe.
All events apart from the Bookbug sessions will be in webinar format through MS Teams.
We are delighted to share the programme of events for professionals and the public.
We are aware that Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and all forms of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) affect a lot of people in Edinburgh and beyond. A lot of the events we are hosting this year will deal with very challenging subjects, especially as we focus on children and young people. We would like to offer a content warning that the events highlighted in this programme deal with
- sexual violence
- exploitation
- incel culture
- misogyny
- relationship abuse
- homicide.
If you are, or have been, affected by those issues and would like to access support, please check our support for people who are experiencing or who have experienced abuse.
If you have any questions or issues signing up for an event, please contact
