School allocations for P1 and S1 places - August 2020
We have completed most of the school allocations for P1 and S1 places starting in August 2020.
Decisions on non-catchment placing requests and admisison to Roman Catholic schools have been made, and parents were notified by letter.
The final batch of requests received after 31 May will be answered and decisions notified by letter before the start of term on 12 August.
Places in non-denominational catchment schools
Children registered for P1 by 29 February 2020 are guaranteed a place in one of their catchment schools.
P7 children due to go to high school are allocated a provisional place in their catchment high school.
If your child was provisionally allocated a place in their RC high school and you made a placing request for your non-denominational catchment school, we have granted these requests and confirmed by letter.
Otherwise we do not send letters to parents confirming catchment places. Schools will contact parents to confirm places and arrange inductions before the beginning of June 2020.
All catchment places are reserved on the understanding children will be resident at the same address by the start of term in August 2020.
Places in Roman Catholic catchment schools
Children who are baptised in the Roman Catholic faith are guaranteed a place in their catchment Roman Catholic school if we received proof of baptism by 29 February 2020.
We turned down places for non-baptised catchment children at
- Holy Cross Primary

Non-catchment placing requests
We make decisions on non-catchment placing requests depending on the date received.
If we received your placing request by 24 December 2019 we sent your decision letter on 9 March 2020. Requests received after this date will be decided on at a later date.
Due to high numbers of catchment pupils we have been unable to grant any placing requests at 52 primary schools and 8 secondary schools.
Turned down requests
If your request has been turned down, please read through your letter carefully. You can
- appeal against our decision to the Placing in Schools Appeal Committee
- ask us for a place in an alternative school, if it has places available. The schools with available places are listed on page 2.
A number of parents are sending their appeals to us - please do not send your appeals to us as these are dealt with by our Committee Services divison.
Waiting list movement
Initially there is unlikley to be much movement on waiting lists. Decisions on nursery deferrals and special schools and classes will be made in April, which may create some additional places.
Unfortunately we are unable to provide you with an update each time your waiting position changes, however if a place becomes available we will contact you to let you know.
