School placement update - 2 May 2022

On 17 April 2022 we completed the second round of school allocations, and answered all late placing requests received up to 31 March 2022.

We will shortly confirm all places offered from the waiting list by letter.

Decisions on placing requests received between 1 - 30 April 2022 will be answered on 13 May 2022.

School placement decisions - 11 March 2022

On 11 March 2022 we completed the first round of school allocations for P1 and S1 places starting in August 2022.

This includes decisions on

  • non-catchment placing requests,
  • catchment Roman Catholic school requests, and
  • requests to change the preferred catchment secondary school

All requests received by 24 December 2021 have been answered, and decisions notified to parents by letter. All letters should be delivered by Friday 18 March 2022. Late requests will be answered at a later date.

Places for P1 non-denominational catchment schools will not be confirmed by letter. You will be contacted directly by the school at a later date.

Places in non-denominational catchment schools

Children registered for P1 by 24 December 2021 were guaranteed a place in one of their catchment schools.

P7 children due to go to high school were allocated a provisional place in their catchment high school.

If your child was provisionally allocated a place in their RC high school and you made a placing request for your non-denominational catchment school, we have granted these requests.

Schools contacted parents to confirm places and arrange inductions before the end of May 2022.

All catchment places are reserved on the understanding children will be resident at the same address by the start of term in August 2022.

Places in Roman Catholic catchment schools

Children who are baptised in the Roman Catholic faith were guaranteed a place in their catchment Roman Catholic school if we received proof of baptism by 24 December 2021.

All decisions are notified by letter.

Turned down requests

If your request has been turned down, please read through your letter carefully. You can

  • appeal against our decision to the Placing in Schools Appeal Committee
  • ask us for a place in an alternative school which has available places. The schools with available places are listed on page 2.

Do not send your appeals to us as these are dealt with by our Committee Services divison.

Read about the appeals process.

Waiting list movement

Initially there is unlikley to be much movement on waiting lists. Decisions on nursery deferrals and special schools and classes were made in April 2022, and in some cases created additional places.

Unfortunately we are unable to provide you with an update each time your waiting position changes, however if a place becomes available we will contact you to let you know.
