Food Hygiene Information scheme

How well did a food business do

Be sure the restaurant you're eating in meets food hygiene standards by checking it has a Food Hygiene Information Scheme (FHIS) pass before you book. Ask the restaurant, look for the certificate or search the FHIS directory for food premises in Edinburgh.

We give the business a certificate which we ask them to display on their window or door. It shows the results of their last inspection. It will say

  • pass
  • awaiting inspection
  • improvement required.

These are based on the conditions found at the time of our inspection, which may have changed since then.

A small number of businesses may be exempt from the scheme as they are very low risk. The scheme covers the whole of Scotland.

Although we aim to provide the most up to date results, some businesses may not have been inspected for a long time. This is because we have had to focus on the higher risk businesses. Everyone in the scheme will be inspected as soon as we can and the results will continue to be updated.
