Slavery and colonialism in Edinburgh

About the Review Implementation Group

The purpose of the group is to oversee the actioning of the Edinburgh Slavery and Colonialism Legacy Review report recommendations. This requires

creating a prioritised delivery plan to include expected costs and timescales for each recommendation
liaising with a variety of stakeholders to make sure there are
- positive community impacts
- effective use of resources
- sharing of expertise and information
identifying funds and resources to implement the delivery plan
regular reporting to Council’s Policy and Sustainability Committee
consulting with people and organisation in Edinburgh as required
regular communication of the group's activities.

The anticipated outputs are

a series of projects to make sure the ESCLR recommendations are developed into achievable, impactful and measurable actions.
annual progress reports to Council
a final report summarising the group’s achievements.

At the first meeting of the group on 20 October 2023:

the members were formally introduced to each other
agreed values and behaviours to guide their work going forwards
agreed terms of reference
discussions were initiated about assigning a lead and support member to take forward each of the recommendations. The pairs of members will work up costed proposals for relevant projects
members had workshops to develop creative ideas for project delivery
ideas were discussed on how to make sure there will be involvement from
- wider public
- ESCLR Supporters' Network
- other stakeholder
- potential partners.
