Slavery and colonialism in Edinburgh

Timeline and getting people's views

The review group completed their review by in spring 2022. The group then produced a report to submit to councillors.

The public consultation

Members of the review group agreed that we must get views from Edinburgh’s citizens. They wanted to know what people felt about the things in our city's public spaces which commemorate links to slavery and colonialism. They wanted to ask about different ways that we could address these parts of our city's past. They wanted to make sure the city is fairer and more welcoming for everyone in the future.

Public feedback informed the review group’s recommendations. The group included them in a report to councillors. This helped the Council decide which actions to take forward and what the priorities for change might be.
