Gull de-nesting in North Merchiston - Petitions (Closed)

I request that, in order that the breeding of urban gulls on tenement roof tops be disrupted, the City of Edinburgh Council runs a pilot programme of de-nesting within North Merchiston.
The pilot could be funded partly if not entirely from profits made each year by the Pest Control section's commercial activities and could, in future years, be rolled out to other parts of the city.

Every year between April and September pairs of breeding gulls return to the same safe nesting sites on flat roof tops. Each pair produces three chicks who in their adulthood come back to these sites to continue the breeding.

Adults gulls can live for over 20 years. Without control their population will continue to expand, resulting in an escalation of the nuisance of noise, fouling, street mess as the gulls pull discarded food out of rubbish skips and plastic bags - and aggressive behaviour towards people and small animals.
