About the project
We have proposals to improve walking, wheeling, and cycling at Maybury Road - from Cammo Meadows to Barnton junction and along Whitehouse Road to West Barnton Avenue.
The changes would help the local community get to shops, schools and other important facilities more easily and safely. They'll be especially helpful for people living at Cammo Meadows, who currently need to cross the busy Barnton junction to get to local facilities.
We are aiming to improve everyday mobility for everyone in the community, helping them stay connected to the places they rely on. This includes
- older people
- anyone with limited mobility
- families
Improvements will include
- more accessible pavements
- safer crossings
- a high-quality cycling route
- better public spaces
- improved connections, linking into the National Cycle Network at Braepark Road and Barnton Avenue West
- dedicated loading space for businesses on Whitehouse Road
- changes to traffic movements including a new signalised junction with pedestrian crossings at Cammo Gardens, and lane changes at Barnton junction.
The project is currently at the design stage and you can comment on these proposals up to 26 January 2026.

The project area includes:

Connecting to a wider network
This project is part of a broader network of walking, wheeling and cycling connections across Edinburgh. There are several other projects that are being planned, are in progress or have been delivered.
Once in place these projects will form a crucial part of our walking, wheeling and cycling network across the city, connecting communities with opportunities for work, study and leisure by sustainable travel.
