Graffiti on Council property is removed, where possible, by our Street Cleansing team as part of their diverse cleansing duties. If the graffiti is on private property it’s the owner’s responsibility to remove this. In some situations legislation might allow us to take enforcement action to make them do this, but you should contact them directly first. Our factsheet [link to factsheet] provides details about how to contact key organisations such as BT and The Post Office.
We aim to remove offensive graffiti (e.g. if it is racist or homophobic) within 24 hours. This might take longer if it’s on private property and we need to get permission from the owner.
We seek to work with communities to tackle graffiti. Our graffiti strategy [link to committee report] explains how we’ll do this.
