Community Asset Transfer

Information for applicants

Community Asset Transfer is the transfer of responsibility for an asset from the Council to a community group or organisation.

Part 5 of The Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 sets out the key rights and duties and provides a framework for the asset transfer process.

Register of land

Under the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 we are required to publish a register of land we own or lease.

Some types of land and property are not included within the register, as outlined in Section 7 of the Asset Transfer Guidance.

Community Right to Buy

Community Right to Buy is a Scottish Government-sponsored scheme which allows communities in Scotland to apply to register an interest in land and give them the opportunity to buy that land when it comes up for sale. Visit the right to buy route map.
