Apply for a Blue Badge

You must include full contact information with your application as Blue Badge renewal notifications are no longer being sent by post. These are now only being sent by email or text.

If you receive benefits which entitle you to a blue badge, you need to enclose a copy of the original letter of entitlement to benefits dated within the last 12 months. 

If you are enclosing a Personal Independence Payment Letter of entitlement, you need to enclose a letter showing the breakdown of points you receive. We may also check that you are in receipt of this award with the Department of Work and Pensions.

Apply for a Blue Badge

Blue Badge holders are exempt from the city centre low emission zone rules but you must apply for an exemption if you are travelling in a car that does not meet the emission standards. Read more about LEZ exemptions on Transport Scotland's LEZ website.

Apply for at risk criteria Blue Badge

If you are applying for a Blue Badge for a person who because of a mental condition lacks awareness of danger from traffic and is likely to compromise their safety or the safety of others, please apply under the at risk criteria.

Renew a Blue Badge 

You should apply to renew your Blue Badge four months before your current badge expires.

Renewal notifications are no longer sent by post. These will be sent by email or text. Please include this contact information in your application.

There are currently delays in completing NHS assessments when applying for or renewing Blue Badges. This is outwith our control. Blue Badges issued by the Council which expire on or after 1 June 2026, will be accepted as being valid for on street parking in Edinburgh until 30 November 2026 providing there is a renewal application in process.

Pay for a Blue Badge

If you applied without making a payment when you submitted your application, please pay for your Blue Badge.

Lost, stolen or damaged Blue Badge

• Replacement badges cost £10
• Lost or stolen badges must be reported to the Police. You will need either the lost property report number or the crime reference number to complete this form
• Damaged badges must be returned to the Council.
