The Opportunity:
We are looking for a Commis Chef to be part of our team at Canopy Kitchen & Courtyard, based at the iconic Edinburgh Future’s Institute, in the heart of the Meadows. Canopy provides a busy Grab & Go style café service, where all the products are made fresh daily in house. A 70-cover restaurant serving up brunch 6 days per week and dinner 3 days per week, focusing on seasonal, Scottish ingredients, whilst also provides delivered hospitality and event catering to the clients in the building. This complex operation, with so much going on, is the perfect opportunity for a Commis Chef looking to take the next step in their career development.
Reporting to the Head Chef and Restaurant Manager, the Commis Chef will assist in the preparation and service of food in the restaurant, café and delivered hospitality side of the business. Main responsibilities include; preparing a range of grab and go items and delivered hospitality meals to pre-set recipes and supporting the sous chefs and CDPs to deliver fantastic quality brunch and dinner dishes to restaurant diners. This complex operation, with so much going on, is the perfect opportunity for a commis chef looking for the next step in their development.
The successful candidate will be a team player who enjoys working as part of a team to deliver the brand standards and exceed the customer’s expectations. You will demonstrate fantastic attention to detail and a passion for food. You will currently be working in a similar role within a catering environment.
It is essential to be able to work flexible shifts, including weekends and evenings.

Accommodation, Catering and Events provides catered and self-catered residential accommodation for over 10,000 students, including community and welfare support through its Residence Life service. We also operate 17 cafes and a range of other catering products to students and staff across the University estate. Under our commercial brand, The University of Edinburgh Hospitality and Events Collection, we deliver hotel accommodation options to around 200,000 guests each year plus an extensive selection of conference, catering and event services to over 2,000 events.
