Long term new library facility
We’ve been exploring options to replace the Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) discovered at Blackhall Library since its closure in September 2023. Due to the extent of works required, the options are complex and a long-term solution will take time to be delivered.
We need to make smart choices to invest in the future of the area. Beyond new core library services, we also have an opportunity to develop a new range of wider modern and accessible services for people across Blackhall and Davidson's Mains.
During winter 2025/26 we’re hosting meetings and workshops with local stakeholder groups to fully understand their aspirations and requirements for a long term replacement providing library services for the community.
Following the opening of the temporary library building in the spring, we’ll launch a 12-week engagement exercise with the wider community for their views on a long term solution.
This engagement will be presented in the form of an online survey. We’ll also host in-person drop-in sessions to listen to people’s views and help them to complete the survey.
We’ll use the findings of this initial engagement work to inform the design of the proposed long-term solution, which we’ll then present for public consultation.
Project updates will be published on this web page and through the Council’s communications channels.
