Volunteer at the library

Home library service

Royal Voluntary service volunteers work in partnership with Edinburgh Libraries to provide library services to elderly, housebound or disabled readers

Volunteering opportunities come up all the time. Now we are looking for the following volunteers at these locations across the city for around 3 hours a fortnight:

  • Granton Library, a volunteer to deliver books using their own vehicles to housebound people in their homes. Tuesday mornings, fortnightly.
  • Granton Library, a volunteer to support the Library Link service which brings people into the library on a minibus (bus and driver provided). Here they can take out and return books, enjoy a cup of tea and a chat with the group before being returned safely home. Day and time to be decided.
  • South Queensferry/Kirkliston Library, a volunteer to support the Library Link service, as above. The bus will start at South Queensferry Library and pick up people in the area to take to Kirkliston Library for the group session. Tuesday mornings, fortnightly.
  • Various locations across Edinburgh. Relief cover volunteers for both Housebound deliveries and Library Link services, to cover sickness and absence. This is a flexible role and will suit someone who cannot volunteer at a regular time or who goes away frequently, but would like to offer their time when available.

All our volunteer roles require a PVG certificate (Protection of Vulnerable Groups, provided by Disclosure Scotland, free of charge to volunteers).

For further information about any of these opportunities, please email or call Sarah, Home Library Service Manager on sarah.tomlins@royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk  07736 924099
