A No Cold Calling Zone (NCCZ) is a residential area where the majority of residents agree they do not want unsolicited doorstep sales or cold callers.
In Edinburgh, NCCZs are supported by the Council'sTrading Standards team, Police Scotland, Neighbourhood Watch groups, housing services, and local communities.
How a zone is created
Residents can ask Trading Standards or their local Neighbourhood Watch coordinator to consider setting up a zone.
Before a zone is introduced
- residents in the area are consulted
- information is sent to households explaining the proposal
- residents can respond by email, post, phone or text
At least 51% of residents must support the proposal for the zone to go ahead.
What NCCZs aim to do
NCCZs help to
- reduce bogus callers, doorstep crime and distraction burglaries
- deter cold calling
- improve reporting of suspicious activity
- help residents feel more confident refusing unsolicited callers

There are currently more than 130 NCCZs across Edinburgh, covering around 12,500 homes, with more zones added in response to community demand.
