Edinburgh's summer festivals have information to help you plan ahead.
Walking and cycling
Edinburgh is very walkable but city centre streets will be very busy and it’s worth noting that it is hilly in places and some streets have cobblestones.
If you’re walking around the city centre, note that some streets are busier than others. Read more about quieter options in our section about quieter places and routes.
And if you’d like to see more of the city by bike, find out more about routes and organised bike rides.
Please note that bikes are not permitted on bus or tram services in the city.
ScotRail allow bikes on their services but some routes require reservations.
Bus & Tram
There are plenty of bus routes to choose from with Lothian Buses. They also have a dedicated Special Services page which has information on services to concerts at Murrayfield and the Royal Higland Centre along with their 'Cruiselink X99' service for visitors arriving into South Queensferry.
Allow for longer journey times on buses and consider getting off a few stops early to avoid busy streets and bus stops in the city centre.
Edinburgh Trams run every 7 minutes from Edinburgh Airport to Newhaven. All night tram services will also operate on Friday and Saturday nights during the festival season. Remember to buy your tickets before boarding or use the 'Tap on Tap off' system.
If you're travelling on both Edinburgh Trams and Lothian Buses please use the same card or device when tappping on and off. Your fare will then automatically cap out at the cost of a day ticket or at the weekly cap for further journeys.
Download the app for both bus and tram information.
Train
ScotRail has details of extra services and late night trains they'll be running throughout the festivals. There is also specific advice for those attending the Oasis concerts at Murrayfield on August, 8, 9 and 12.
Travel from outside of Edinburgh
Plan your journey into and out of Edinburgh with Traveline Scotland. It has timetables for all bus operators and trains.
