Vulnerable people during severe weather

Support for older, disabled or isolated people

We can provide support, information and advice for older, disabled or isolated people during severe weather.

We would urge anyone who can, to check on older, isolated and disabled neighbours to see if they are coping during snow and severe weather. It is a good idea to check that they have enough food and essential supplies in their home.

Who can apply for support

Usually, we can provide support for people who

  • are aged 80 or over
  • have a significant disability or medical condition
  • live alone and have no support available from a family member or neighbour.

If you think you need support or know someone who might, contact Social Care Direct.

Emergency supplies

We can provide emergency supplies to vulnerable people during periods of severe weather. The packages, which include tinned food and other essential supplies, will be delivered to people assessed as requiring assistance.

Medical advice

If you think someone needs medical advice, and you are unsure who their GP is, you can phone NHS 24 on

111.

You can call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your call is free from a landline or mobile phone.
