Apply to become chair of a new board to oversee funding in the community

We’re looking for someone with a deep connection to these areas to become the chair of a new neighbourhood board that will oversee £20 million investment funds from UK Government’s Pride in Place programme. The funds will be spent over the next ten years on projects developed from ideas generated by people living in the area.

The chair of the board must:

  • live or work in the community
  • understand the opportunities and challenges in the community
  • show a commitment to championing community voices
  • have experience of working with and building relationships with local people and, for example, groups like community representatives, businesses, organisations, councils or other public sector partners
  • understand how to work together with other people and groups to achieve shared goals which will help the community
  • be committed prioritising community voices.

You don’t need experience of working with a board or management group nor of managing funds. We’ll support the right person. This might involve training, mentoring or help finding a co-chair if you feel you would rather take on this role alongside somebody else. Your desire and passion to support the community is most important.

Once in post, the chair will appoint a board with support from the Council, local councillors and Member of Parliament (MP).

The board - which includes the chair - will be proactive, transparent, trustworthy and independent, engaging local people in the process at all stages.

The chair and board members are voluntary positions. They will decide how they will work - for example:

  • the amount of time they will commit
  • frequency of meetings
  • involvement in public consultations.

Board members who live locally will be paid for their involvement at a rate above the Living Wage. They will also get other support costs such as translations, childcare and travel.
