Land contamination

We are required to check land in our area for contamination. Like much of Scotland, there are areas where chemicals may be present in the soil. This is mainly due to past industrial activity, but some substances may occur naturally.

We need to keep a register of such land. At present this register is empty as we have not found land that meets the legal definition of contaminated land. If we find any such land we will place its details on our register. You will be able to view it at our offices and online.

In most cases, contamination is dealt with during redevelopment. The land contamination and development management guidance helps you to check if this may be an issue for your development.

We hold information about land, landfills and private water supplies in our area.

Contact us about details we hold for a piece of land. Let us know where the site is and what information you would like.

We will let you know if there is likely to be a charge for providing this information and how much it will be before we deal with your request.
