Craigmount High School expansion

We are currently developing plans to extend Craigmount High School. The school currently has capacity for 1,400 pupils and we plan to increase this to 1,800. This project will provide the school with space and facilities to meet increasing demand for places from new housing developments in the local area.

The project proposals include a new building, reconfiguration of some existing spaces and landscaping.  The new extension would be built on the grass field at the east side of the school.

The project is currently in the early development stages, and more information will be published here as the project develops.

We will be organising public information sessions at key stages of the project. These sessions will provide a platform for feedback and comments on the proposals as we develop them in more detail.

If approved, we currently expect the work to be completed by the summer of 2029.

Take part in our pre-Planning consultation

We are launching a public consultation on our proposed extension to Craigmount High School.  Responses to the consultation will be considered as part of the Planning Application for the project.  You will be able to submit your views using our online survey from Tuesday 21 April 2026.  A link will be provided on this page. The consultation will close on Friday 12 June 2026.

We will also be holding two public engagement events where members of our team will be available to discuss the plans and listen to your views.

The events will be held at Craigmount High School, Craigs Rd, Edinburgh EH12 8NH on the following dates:

  • Thursday, 30 April 2026, 4.30pm to 8pm
