Due to a vacancy arising by a resignation, a by-election is to be held to elect one councillor to Electoral Ward number 15 of the City of Edinburgh Council, Southside / Newington. The returning officer has determined that polling should take place on 3 September 2026.
The formal notice of election was published on Wednesday 15 July 2026. The period for nominations will run from and include Thursday 16 July 2026 until Friday 31 July 2026.

Voters may wish to consider applying for an absent vote which means voting by post or by proxy which means someone voting for them. For a polling date of 3 September the following deadlines apply for registration and voting include applications:
- to be included on the register of voters must be made by midnight on Tuesday 18 August 2026
- for new postal votes including postal proxy votes must be made by 5pm on Wednesday 19 August 2026
- for changes to existing postal or proxy votes must be made by 5pm on Wednesday 19 August 2026
- for new proxy votes except for emergencies must be made by 5pm on Wednesday 26 August 2026
