Jack Kane Centre & Hunter's Hall Park

A new and improved hub

We want to create a vibrant hub that brings education, sports, health, and wider community services together, while supporting the future of Hunter's Hall Park and the Jack Kane Community and Sports Centres.

As part of this planned work, we need to develop a new school to meet growing local demand.

This project responds to current development plans for the area and feedback from previous engagement to create a hub for learning, recreation, and community activity, alongside the original plan for a new BMX facility.

Our consultation

We want to know what you think about Jack Kane Centre and Hunter's Hall Park, how you use these spaces, and how they could be better for you. This feedback is helping us to shape our proposals.

We ran the first phase of public engagement in early 2025 with

  • an online survey,
  • public drop-in events at Jack Kane Centre and Craigmillar Library,
  • workshops with local stakeholder groups,
  • and our team met with people in the community while travelling around the area on a cargo bike.

People shared lots of useful feedback which identified some key issues, including

  • concerns around public safety for people using the park and the buildings within it
  • the need to protect and improve the park’s green spaces
  • a desire to expand the kind of services available in the park and its buildings, like better play facilities and spaces for families and young people
  • the need for better access into and through the park.

We are now meeting with key stakeholders to review the findings in more detail and agree the best approach to progressing the project into the next stage.

Updates on the next steps will be published on this web page in due course.
