Edinburgh is 900 years old

Get involved and apply for funding

Edinburgh 900 is open for all to get involved in different ways.

If you’d like to run an event but are short on ideas or potential partners, you can contact the Council’s project team for advice. Please email

edinburgh900@edinburgh.gov.uk.

Be part of the programme

If you are already planning events for 2024-25 and would like to be part of our Edinburgh 900 programme, you can apply to use the Edinburgh 900 logo. Your event will also be advertised on the Edinburgh 900 website and marketing activity.

Applying for Edinburgh 900 funding

We have limited funds to support civic and community organistions to create events and activities as part of the Edinburgh 900 celebrations.

This outlines the processes and criteria for organisations to apply for funding for Edinburgh 900 activities or events. Although each fund has separate budgets, these criteria and processes cover civic and community applications.

We have a total of £100,000 for each of the funds. To make sure the funding is spread fairly across the city, we have set a limit to how much applicants can ask for in a single application, depending on the type of application they are making.Projection of old Corstorphine on a building, photograph taken during the Redrawing Edinburgh community heritage event in 2021

  • £5,000 for community fund applications
  • £15,000 for civic funding applications.

Community fund applications need to be led by an Edinburgh-based community group and focussed on activities/events held within the local area(s) represented by the participating group(s).

Civic fund events should be city-wide in reach, if not scope, with applications led by an Edinburgh-based cultural or heritage organisation.

You may make more than one application, though the Edinburgh 900 Programme Board will consider each on its own merits. We encourage joint applications as a way of

  • increasing reach and impact
  • building partnerships.

How to apply

You must submit applications online by

If you have any follow-up queries email edinburgh900@edinburgh.gov.uk.

Please note that we expect the level of detail and commitment in your application to correspond to the level of funding you are requesting.

The Edinburgh 900 Implementation Programme Board will review all applications and determine funding allocations for both funds using the critieria. The board is chaired by our Director of Culture and Wellbeing. We will let you know the outcome of your application within four weeks of the application deadline.
