We also have a women’s service. We do not work with men and women side by side as couples.

You might be asked to attend the Caledonian Edinburgh Programme if you are a man who has been convicted of domestic abuse.

Men convicted of domestic abuse

Caledonian Edinburgh is a programme to help men convicted of domestic abuse to change their behaviour. Only men convicted of an offence can take part as part of a community payback order from the court.

At the court's request, you will meet with one of our workers to see if you are suitable for the programme. We will ask you about your behaviour and why you want to change.

The programme is part of the Caledonian System and you can find out how the men's programme is linked to other parts of the system on the Scottish Government website.

If you have not been convicted, you can get help for men being abusive who haven't been convicted.

Safer Families and Caledonian Edinburgh aim to help you

  • understand why you have been abusive
  • take responsibility for your behaviour and attitudes
  • take responsibility in your relationship with your partner or ex-partner and children
  • behave positively.

We have worked with a lot of men and understand how hard it is to ask for help. When you decide that you need to change you have already taken the most important step. Your partner and children have the right to feel safe around you.
