Extend Lothian Bus 14 to serve Dumbiedykes - Petitions (Open)
Petition details
We, residents and community members of Dumbiedykes and the surrounding area, ask the City of Edinburgh Council to work with Lothian Buses to provide a reliable, seven-day bus service that serves everyone in our community.
Our preferred option is extending the number 14 route through Dumbiedykes, a detour of about 10 minutes, to connect our area to the wider public transport network. Our area has no direct, walkable access to reliable public transport seven days a week.
Residents must walk over 30 minutes, all up very steep hills, to reach the nearest reliable bus stop. A local bus link is urgently needed so residents can travel safely to healthcare and GP surgeries, connecting buses to the Royal Infirmary, supermarkets, local shops, community centres, churches, schools, nurseries and workplaces.
Housing and population in our area have grown significantly, but public transport has not kept pace. A reliable local service would also reduce car use, ease parking congestion and support sustainable travel targets.
We ask the Council to ensure Lothian Buses:
1- Review passenger demand data for Dumbiedykes
2- Consult local residents, including the large student population
3- Introduce a frequent, viable service that meets our community's daily travel needs
