Save Gate 55 - Petitions (Open)

Petition details
This petition has been set up to save the remaining buildings of Gate 55 & Calderglen Early years. The people of sighthill want more money and proper funding put into these 2 buildings that have been part of the community for years. Both Gate 55 and calderglen Early years have amazing potential, and have brought a lot of joy and resources to families and the community over the years. They have a library, provide classes for all age ranges and also offer support services for the people of the area. Not to mention calderglen also was a nursery to 50 children and had an amazing outdoor area, which is what attracted people to it the most. To see these buildings be destroyed would be devastating for the community and leave no resources for anyone in the area. The services and facilities available for communities are already drastically lacking. To remove a nursery and a community centre is causing more stress for families and less resources for them and our future children. There was no official proposal or consultation to close Calderglen and we are petitioning to have it sufficiently repaired rather than demolished. And to hold a proper proposal and consultation before any planned demolition. We would really like the council to reconsider the option of knocking down the 2 buildings and to consider putting in more money, time and resources to the facilities we have left. The services are already drastically lacking and removing a nursery and a community centre is putting more strain on surrounding nurseries and community centres. The closure at Calderglen needs an official proposal and consultation, with an immediate solution of either repair or a move to G55 and a long term plan such as a new facility being built for the community.
