Revoke Freedom of the City of Edinburgh award for Aung San Suu Kyi - Petitions (Closed)

Petition details
Aung San Suu Kyi was awarded the Freedom of the City of Edinburgh in 2005 for her efforts in bringing democracy to Myanmar.
Unfortunately, since coming to power she has overseen mass crimes against ethnic minorities in her country. Aung San Suu Kyi refuses to acknowledge the Rohingya peoples as citizens of Myanmar even though they have lived in the country for several generations.

Recent military action has seen thousands displaced, killed and ethnically cleansed from their homeland. A genocide is taking place.

Suu Kyi’s government has banned a U.N. investigation team from entering the afflicted region and accuses UN aid workers of aiding ‘terrorists’. The UN states the regime’s actions “very likely” amount to crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing.

Suu Kyi’s lack of action or condemnation of violence targeting the country’s approximately 1 million Rohingya peoples is an open encouragement for brutal military officers and extremist Buddhists to step up campaigns of terror against the defenceless and oppressed Rohingya people.

Someone with this much blood on their hands does not deserve the Freedom of the City of Edinburgh award. It should be revoked from her and she should be reminded of her responsibilities to fellow human beings.
