Climate ready Craigleith

Craigleith SuDS Streets

The Craigleith SuDS Streets is a Climate Ready Edinburgh project, using nature-based solutions to manage rainwater. Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) are planted areas that help manage rainwater and reduce flood risk, while making streets greener and more attractive.

We are working with design consultants Mott MacDonald to develop proposals to manage surface water using a SuDS approach in the Craigleith area. The proposals will help to adapt Edinburgh to a changing climate, by reducing surface water flood risk in the area. The proposals use SuDS to help cleanse, soak up and slow rainwater - protecting the sewer network. We will do this by

  • adding green space - transforming grey streets into green tree-lined streets.
  • maximising the value of underused spaces - turning hard surfaces and unused space into green SuDS raingardens.
  • calming traffic and making road junctions safer and more pedestrian-friendly - reducing the size of road junction corners so vehicles turn more slowly and people have less distance to cross.

The proposals are at

  • Craigleith Road
  • Craigleith Crescent
  • Craigleith Drive
  • Craigleith Avenue South
  • Ravelston Dykes.

You can get more details on the proposals on Climate Ready Craigleith.
