Pay Council Tax

Pay 10 monthly instalments from April to January, with nothing to pay in February or March or make a single full payment before the end of April.

You will have the added option of making 12 monthly payments, and you can choose your preferred payment date.

You can also choose to pay in one annual instalment on 30 April every year.

Please allow for up to 15 working days for us and your bank or building society to set up your direct debit mandate. A payment notice will then be issued to confirm your instalments for the next available chosen payment date.

Make a bank payment

Payment reference should be your 11 digit Council Tax account number from the top right hand side of your paper bill. If you are registered for paperless billing your bill holds an 8 digit Council Tax account number. Please add a 9 to the start and a year indicator (21 for 2021/22, 22 for 2022/23 for example) at the end when making payment.

  • debit card details
  • 11 digit Council Tax account number from the top right hand side of your paper bill
  • 8 digit Council Tax account number from your paperless bill adding a 9 at the start and year indicator at the end (21 for 2021/22, 22 for 2022/23 for example).

We cannot take credit card payments by phone.

The service is free of charge. 

Contact us to ask for a payment card. Card will show your name and Council tax account number. It lasts for several years. You need it to let the shop or Post Office know which account you are paying into.
